A Well Earned Break in London

A Well Earned Break in London

This post guest was written by Charlotte from bipbopmum.com

Are you a busy mum who has dedicated all her time to the children this summer?

Are you now desperate for a break? If so, read on!

Last weekend, the Hubby and I had just that. It was actually quite a well-earned break as we hadn’t had one since our little boy was born and he’s now almost 2 years old!

It was our wedding anniversary and so to mark the special occasion, we spent it in London. We booked the stereotypical meal, show and hotel for the weekend but it was money well spent and I can’t recommend it enough.

So here is a rundown of what we booked and a short review of each.

The Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel & Spa

When we arrived at lunchtime, we could check into our room straight away. The staff were incredibly friendly and wished us a happy anniversary, (clearly it has flashed up on their screen under our booking notes, but it did the trick in making us feel like VIPs!) Upon entering the room we were greeted with a gorgeous box of chocolate truffles and rose petals on the bed.

The room was spacious, homely and had all expected amenities. The huge bathroom had both a bath and a separate shower too. There was also a plug next to a mirror for hair straighteners! (A well-known epic fail if any hotel room doesn’t have this!)

We then went downstairs to the bar to order some lunch before heading off to see the show. We had a bottle of the tastiest prosecco waiting for us at our table and I think it tasted even better because it was free! The food was also delicious!

The location of the hotel was great as it was about a ten minute taxi ride to Piccadilly Circus which was where the theatre was. The only negative thing I would say about the hotel was the parking. It was £20 for us to park for one night. But this was a secure manned carpark and it was Chelsea after all! The hotel is really near Battersea train station though so the extravagant cost is easily avoidable. The hotel also had a spa – more on that bit later…

Les Miserables

We saw the matinee performance of the longest running West End Show –  Les Miserables. We booked this through Theatre Tickets Direct relatively last minute and got ourselves a really good deal for row H stall seats. The show itself gave me goose bumps and there were many times where I shed a tear or two! If you are yet to see it, I would highly recommend it!

Seven Dials

After the show, we took in the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus and walked through Covent Garden to Seven Dials where we had our meal. The Hawksmoor Restaurant had been recommended to us by a friend and we had been gifted a voucher towards our bill. It isn’t the cheapest of places by far but ‘wow’ if you want a good steak – go here! You can choose your own weight, cut and have it cooked to absolute perfection. We had a lovely meal with some really interesting cocktails and they threw in some anniversary salted caramel chocolates for pudding that tasted AMAZING!

Later that evening, we strolled through Trafalgar Square where you could just about see Big Ben (sadly now with no chimes!) and admired the street entertainers. I used to work in London and I think I took it all for granted before. It was fantastic to be back and enjoy the evening as dusk became night time in a city that never sleeps.

Spa

The following morning, we didn’t have to check out of our room until 11am, which meant we could have a lie in for the first time in a very long time. Oh how strange it was to wake up to silence! No crying toddler in sight! We could enjoy the ‘all-you-can-eat’ buffet breakfast at our leisure without having food thrown at us. I even had time to drink two cups of tea! Simply bliss! It also meant we could spend the day relaxing at the hotel’s spa as we had full access even post check out.

The spa was small but wasn’t busy at all. It featured a complimentary steam room, sauna and luxurious swimming pool. There were a variety of treatments available to book and I had a back, neck and shoulder ‘Muscle Melt’ massage. It was so good, I actually came out taller!

I would highly recommend a mini break in London but do book in advance what you would like to do. The alternative is that you will queue to do everything and no one wants to spend their break doing that. Even if it is very British of us to do so.
